Dion Lee Takes Australian Fashion Week

Many who attended the Australian Fashion Week will agree that it was a big bore for most who attended. With most models displaying ho-hum styles of what would appear to be lazy designers, and left most of the audiences contemplating who had the best breast implants. However, the week was saved by one young designer, Dion Lee. The 24 year old inspired the audience with his innovative designs.

What was the most exciting of his designs were the ultraviolet coloured Rorschach inkblot prints used on the jackets and a miniskirt with see through sidings. This was topped off by the fact that the miniskirt was worn by Samantha Harris, an Aboriginal model. This won much favour from the Australian audience.

Lee was inspired by the disharmony between that which controlled and that which is subconscious. In other words, he blended very strict and disciplined tailoring with fun draping, knots, and pleads. The beauty of Lee’s work was surrounded by the natural beauty of Sydney cityscape as well as the backdrop of the Sydney Opera house.

Lee should indeed be proud of himself, as he has gained the acclaim of some of the top fashion magazine editors such as Kirstie Clements. Many saw him as the only bright light at this year’s Fashion Week. He made the Fashion Week not such a horrible bust.

This is a great way to start the new summer season. A young designer, almost fresh out of fashion school, becomes the saviour of a fashion show. Many, in fact, called most of the show to be uninspiring and in some cases inept. To have a young designer come up and outshine some of the industry’s biggest names is quite the achievement. It is fair to say that the name Dion Lee will not be soon forgotten. We will indeed be seeing more from the young, hip designer.
